Basic Purpose

The Campus Safety Officer is responsible for the safety and security of students, visitors, and employees as well as the safety and security of the campus facilities.

Principal Duties & Activities


  1. A Campus Safety Officer is appointed by the Director of Campus Safety.
  2. A Safety Officer shall be responsible for the efficient performance of his/her duties in conformity with the policies of the department and the regulations set forth in the TMU Employee Manual and other University policies.
  3. A Safety Officer’s working hours will be set by the Supervisor but are subject to change as conditions dictate.

*Campus Safety provides coverage on Campus 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  1. Shall be responsible for: protection of life and property, prevention of crime, enforcement of University regulations to include Saints Community Standards, aggressively patrol parking lots and entire campus several times per shift, and respond  to calls for assistance.                                                    
  2. Shall note and report any and all conditions which adversely effect the appearance, safety and health of the TMU Campus and Community.
  3. Perform any and all other duties assigned by the Supervisor.


Education, Specialized and/or Technical Knowledge Requirements

Education:           A High School diploma or GED.

Experience:        Prefer 12 months experience in security or a related field.


Physical Job Requirements

Tools and Equipment Used

·  Personal computer, copier, fax/scanner, phone, radio and other typical office equipment


·  Minimal – less than 5% of the time

Physical & Mental Demands

·  Frequently required to sit at/in a vehicle/desk for a long period of time

·  Ability to work at a computer terminal

·  Ability to stand for long periods of time/direct traffic

·  Digital dexterity and hand/eye coordination with assigned equipment

·  Lifting and carrying, ability up to 30 lbs

·  Ability to communicate and hear employees/clients via phone or in person

·  Body motor skills sufficient to enable Officer to move around all areas of the campus

  • Mental requirements include: compare, decide, direct, problem solve, instruct, interpret
