What You Will Do: 

The primary purpose of the ILD Office Coordinator position is to provide critical administrative support to the Institute for Learning Differences (ILD) by facilitating student accommodations, managing office operations, and supporting the successful integration of assistive technologies and resources for students with learning differences. The role ensures that students receive equitable access to academic resources, assisting the ILD Director and staff in maintaining a supportive and inclusive environment.

Aligned with Thomas More University’s mission to challenge students of all faiths to examine the ultimate meaning of life, their place in the world, and their responsibility to others, the ILD Office Coordinator plays a key role in fostering an inclusive campus where every student, regardless of their learning differences, can thrive academically and personally. By coordinating accommodations and providing access to essential support services, the position helps uphold the university’s commitment to empowering students and fostering their success in alignment with its core values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Student Support & Case Management: Track student progress with accommodations, assist in developing individualized accommodation plans, and maintain up-to-date records on student needs and services provided.
  • Accessibility Training: Provide training sessions or workshops for students and staff on assistive technology and how to utilize accommodation services effectively.
  • Data Reporting & Analysis: Assist with collecting and reporting data on student accommodation usage, success rates, and overall ILD program effectiveness for institutional reporting or audits.
  • Community Outreach & Collaboration: Work with academic departments, student services, and external organizations to promote ILD services and ensure students receive comprehensive support across campus.

Additional General Office Duties:

  • Document & Policy Maintenance: Assist in reviewing and updating office policies and procedures to remain compliant with ADA and Section 504 requirements.
  • Event Coordination: Help organize events, workshops, or informational sessions related to learning differences or accessibility for students and staff.
  • File & Record Audits: Periodically audit student files to ensure all necessary documentation is up to date and complies with confidentiality regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field (such as education, psychology, or a related discipline) preferred.
  • Experience working with students with learning differences and diverse populations is essential.
  • Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, the following laws and regulations:
    • ADA-AA (Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act)
    • Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act
    • FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act)
    • HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act)
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, particularly when handling sensitive student information and records.
  • Passion for higher education and a commitment to Thomas More University’s mission and values.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Familiarity with Adobe, Canvas (learning management system), or similar software.
  • Willingness to learn new technology or software relevant to supporting students with learning differences.
