Purpose
The Instructor & Laboratory Coordinator - Biological Sciences position is a 12-month non-tenure track, special appointed faculty position consisting of teaching and lab coordinator responsibilities.
This position requires a full-time commitment of 37.5 hours per week. Hours spent teaching laboratory courses are contained within that number of hours per week; however, the balance of the time remaining should be spent on laboratory coordinator activities. Because of the nature and timing of laboratory courses (some labs start at 8:30AM; some labs end at 9:00PM) in the department, the exact daily schedule will be dictated by the semester-by-semester nature of the courses offered in the department. Flexibility is required by the position while flexibility is also provided by the department in any given week (and especially in summer).
Instructor duties will be satisfied by teaching a total of six laboratory sections per year, with a particular emphasis on the Anatomy & Physiology I and II sequence. The identity of specific courses and frequency at which courses are assigned will be determined in consultation with the Department Chairperson and the departmental staffing needs. Laboratory Coordinator duties include (a) supervising work-study students, (b) overseeing laboratory activities in the department (e.g. the preparation, setup, and breakdown of laboratory sessions), (c) handling purchase orders, and (d) managing general upkeep of the departmental spaces.
