Graduating from Bay County High School in Panama City, Florida, gave Richard Shuey a unique perspective --- one that later in life channeled him into business administration. Initially, however, his goal was to be a physician. He attended St. Louis University as a biology major, chemistry minor, in undergrad pre-med for his first three years after high school. During those years our country was embroiled in the Vietnam War and in 1969 he joined the U.S. Coast Guard. His four-year commitment was served on the Great Lakes. After the service, during which Richard had married and begun a family, he began a career in business within the restaurant industry. His efforts were primarily in the human resource management arena, specializing in staffing, training, and development. Deciding on a career change after twenty-five years in the industry with multiple merges and acquisitions, he attended Thomas More College in the Accelerated Program (TAP 12) and earned his Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in 1996. He concluded that he wished to establish a career teaching at Thomas More College, which led to earning the Master of Arts in Labor and Employment Relations Degree from the University of Cincinnati.
