Course Description:

Prerequisite: ENG 150. This course will offer an overview of the genre of tragedy from its roots in ancient Greece and Rome, through its Renaissance revival, and onto the twentieth century. We will examine theories of tragedy, the genre, and scholarly commentary. The class will read classic works selected from playwrights from the Ancient Greeks to the twentieth century, and view and analyze selected stage productions.
